Student Membership gives eligible tertiary students an affordable way to join HL7 Australia, build their knowledge and participate in the development, implementation and adoption of health information standards.
Whether you are studying healthcare, information technology, health informatics or a related discipline, membership provides an opportunity to learn from the standards community and begin contributing your own perspective.
Health information standards bring together expertise from many different disciplines, and you do not need to wait until you graduate to become involved.
Student Membership provides opportunities to learn more about standards development, connect with people working across healthcare and digital health, and gain exposure to the practical application of HL7 standards in Australia.
You do not need to already be a standards expert. Membership gives you a way to build your understanding through participation and engagement with the community.
Student Membership is available to people undertaking a full-time or part-time course at a recognised tertiary education provider in a discipline related to healthcare and/or information technology.
This may include students studying areas such as health informatics, medicine, nursing, allied health, information technology, computer science, data, digital health and other relevant disciplines.
If you do not meet the Student Membership eligibility requirements but would still like to participate in HL7 Australia in your own capacity, Individual Membership may be the right option.
Student Members can participate in relevant HL7 Australia activities, develop their understanding of health information standards and connect with members working across standards development, implementation and adoption.
Student Members also hold one vote at HL7 Australia General Meetings and Member ballots, providing a formal voice within HL7 Australia’s member-based governance and standards community.

Standards play an important role in how health information is structured, exchanged and used across healthcare systems.
Becoming involved with HL7 Australia while you study can give you greater insight into how standards are developed, how they are applied in practice and the challenges organisations are working together to solve.
It also provides an opportunity to meet and learn from clinicians, developers, informaticians, researchers, policy professionals, vendors and others contributing to Australia’s health standards community.

If you are no longer studying or do not meet the Student Membership eligibility requirements, Individual Membership provides the equivalent pathway for people participating in their own capacity.
$40 AUD including GST
HL7 Australia operates an annual membership year from 1 June to 31 May. New memberships commencing during the membership year are subject to the applicable pro-rata arrangements.
